Committed to Excellence
Double B Marine Services is owned and operated by Billy Berg, a lifelong waterman with over 15 years of professional maritime experience. Billy is known for his dependable, high-quality service across every sector of the industry — from running offshore sportfishing charters and managing private yachts in the Bahamas and along the East Coast, to conducting detailed yacht and small craft marine surveys and supporting cargo operations aboard bulk carriers.

Billy holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master Captain’s License with towing endorsement and is a certified PADI Open Water Diver, Yacht and Small Craft Marine Surveyor, and NMEA Certified Marine Electronics Installer. His rare combination of operational skill and technical expertise enables him to provide a full range of services, including vessel deliveries, Pre-Purchase and Condition & Value (C&V) surveys, cargo inspections, and complete yacht management — all delivered with a focus on safety, precision, and client satisfaction.

Billy’s experience spans vessels ranging from 30’ center consoles to 80’ motor yachts and commercial vessels. With a background in private yachting, Gulf Stream trolling, commercial bottom fishing, and long-range tender runs, he brings firsthand knowledge of how vessels are built, used, and maintained. That real-world understanding forms the foundation of his approach to yacht and small craft surveys.

Whether he’s surveying a 20-year-old sportfish or a recently repowered center console, Billy takes a methodical, boots-on-deck approach. He knows where systems fail, what buyers overlook, and how to communicate findings clearly — giving clients confidence in the vessel they’re buying or insuring. His attention to detail, mechanical know-how, and honest reporting make his surveys a trusted resource for owners, brokers, and underwriters alike.

In recent years, Billy has also developed specialized expertise in marine cargo surveying. He conducts accurate draft surveys aboard bulk carriers discharging thousands of tons of cargo at major East Coast ports. Trained by one of the industry’s most respected cargo surveyors, Billy performs all calculations manually — reinforcing accuracy and reliability in every report. His strong construction background, familiarity with marine operations, and hands-on mindset make him a trusted partner for terminals, agents, and survey firms alike.

For Billy, the water isn’t just work — it’s a way of life. Whether he’s overseeing a cargo discharge, preparing a yacht for a long-distance run, or coaching new boaters at the helm, he brings a calm, confident presence and deep-rooted experience to every job.
